What Our Guests Say

Beautiful location right on the beach. Marty is a perfect host and the atmosphere was laid back and we felt very much at home. The staff in the cafe were extremely welcoming towards our small children and provided meals at odd hours in order to satisfy our needs. The beach is perfect and you can swim without fear also with small children and also the surf is good! There are surfboards for use and hammocks for relaxation and really is a sweet spot.

The Beach house is just what the name says. It's set on probably the most beautiful beach I have yet seen in my extensive travels, throughout Asia, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. Admittedly I have not seen them all but we are going to be talking about this place for the rest of our lives. So many places on the South coast of Sri Lanka have beautiful beaches but the waves or current are too strong to swim safely. Not here; it's set in a glorious coconut palm fringed golden sandy bay. The waves close in are gentle and perfect and yet on the eastern edge of the bay the waves are good enough to surf. Marty is a great Australian host and a really good surfer and teacher. I had a two hour surfing lesson at a really reasonable price – probably less than a quarter of the price you would pay per hour for a driving lesson in England. Thanks to Marty's skilled instruction I got up first time! I'm 58 and have never skateboarded or skied. We ate here both nights at a very convivial banquet style table which was great fun. Mixed crowd of guests (all much younger than us) including couples that were Danish, Swedish, Swiss, German, Dutch and us English. One couple had small children. The food was very reasonably priced, plentiful, very varied and really delicious (I wanted to take the young chef back to England with us) and not too chill hot which pleased my wife a lot. I'm very choosy about my food and rarely eat in the same place two nights in a row but here I didn't even think of looking for somewhere else for our second night. The rooms are simple but tastefully done with a charming bathroom exposed to the sky but with no prospect of voyeurs, unless they are giraffes. No aircon or fridges so if you want all the five star luxuries (which I enjoy and have benefitted from on this 4 week, 16 stop trip to Sri Lanka) stay away, it's not for you. But if you want an unbeatably glorious beach, great food, decent prices and really nice people – both owners and staff – the only thing you will regret is not staying longer. We certainly do.

The best way to describe the Beach House is a song by Belinda Carlisle - "Heaven is a place on earth". My family of four stayed for five nights and I thought that I was going to get bored by the beautiful scenery and warm ocean, but we were socialising with the other guests, surfed, snorkelled and relaxed. The really nice vibe created by the crew of the Beach House and the other guests, as well as visitors made us want to plan a new trip to the bay. We are definitely coming back!
